GARCHA HISTORY
Garcha Jats are from Tanwar Rajputs. There was a time when they were ruling on Delhi. Tanwar King II of Delhi was not having any son. Chauhan over powered Tanwars and started ruling Delhi during the year 1164. Later Prithivi Raj Chauhan became the King of Delhi. Tanwar left Delhi and moved towards Rajasthan. Garchas along with Toors moved out from Yamuna area of Delhi toward Rajasthan and then to Ludhiana. Garchas are considered off shoots of Toors. That time Moga was controlled by Gills, Nihalawala area was under the control of Dhaliwals. South Malwa was with Sidhu Baras till Kotpura. Garewal came to Ludhiana after Garchas. Garchas moved to Ludhiana area during 12th Century and Garewal came to this area during 15th Century. Garchas started controlling the green belt between Satluj and Beas after leaving the Yamuna area. Village Kuhara is the Jathera village of Garchas. Apart from this, Garchas are in village Dhandhari Kalan, Dhandhari Khurd, Shankar, Bilga and Majara etc. In Doaba, there is a famous and old village Garcha on Philaur-Nawan Shahar Rd. In Ropar also there is a village Garcha. Garcha are Hindus and dalits also. In Mansa area there is a village Beeroka Kalan where Daleo ( ), Aulakh, Chahil and Garcha Jat Sikhs are available. Garcha consider Ludhiana as their ancestors place and originally they moved to India from Central Asia (Turkistan, Iran & Afghanistan).
S. SATPAL SINGH MAND
S. Satpal Singh Mand was born in Apr 1972 at V. Mand, Distt. Hoshiarpur. His father name is S. Mahnga Singh Mand. He had two brothers Col Parvinder Singh Mand & S. Inderjit Singh Mand (Canada) and two sisters. The whole family is very well built, tall and cheerful. He studied in village school & joined college at Dasuya. Body building and regular exercise was his hobby. He was a big motivator for the youngsters to encourage them for games. He had played handball upto Inter University level. He was a coach for Punjab Police, GTB Khalsa College for Women Dasuya and also he trained his own village girls who have played Nationals. He was a Captain of International Kabaddi Club, Hoshiarpur. He led the district team who played matches at Ludhiana, Ropar, Patiala, Mansa, Jalandhar & Kapurthala. With his initiative village had a strong sports club and purchased the necessary sports equipment. He was a back bone for the village sports.
2. As he grew up, he started taking interest in panchayat elections and youth Akali Dal. He became village Panch & subsequently he was elected as President Youth Akali Dal. He had good contracts with all the Govt. Officers in Dasuya. All the village were looking forwards for his help for any official job in Dasuya. He was approachable to everyone & his pet words used to be Tussin Apna Ghar Da Kam Karo, Main Shahir Da Kam Ape Sambhal Loonga. His assurance used to be sufficient to relieve all the worries & mental pressure. He was a problems solver for everyone.
3. Destiny played its own role. During 2008, he received his sister Kuldeep Kaur at Delhi who arrived from Canada & started back for village in a taxi. On the way near Piply (Kurukhetra), their taxi hit a truck and almighty took away the life of Satpal, the most wanted youngster in the village. Even his niece died in the accident, his father and sister got injured.
4. He was a very bold and risk taker, a reliable friend and neighbour, a sportsman in a real sense. His death is not only the unbearable loss to his family but it was a big loss for the whole village, the vacuum created by him will not be fulfilled in the near future. His both children Harveer Singh and Anganveer Kaur are too small to fill the gap. We all pray to God to bless his soul and give sufficient encouragement to the old parents / wife to bear the loss.

S. HARI SINGH MAND
S. Hari Singh was the eighth child of his parents. His father's name was S. Achhar Singh. He was born during 1920 in village Mand. He studied upto fifth class. He was fond of body building and had a very good physique.
2. At the age of 18 he joined Indian Army in the Sat Giaran Sikh Centre ( ). During Second World War he participated in the war at Malaya, Singapore, Java, Sumatra and Kameela. During 1948 he got injured during Kashmir operations in which he was hit by bomb blisters at four places on his body near his armpits, left rear thigh and near left eye. He got unconscious. He was picked up by his partners S. Kashmira Singh [of village Khairabad (near Dasuya)] and party. Me was brought by ambulance to Jammu and put on Dl list. The whole village expected that he is no more but God has saved his life. From there, he was air lifted to Delhi hospital. He was sent to Devlali after initial treatment for rehabitation. Subsequently he was sent to Delhi/Pune for further treatment. He was boarded out from Delhi as Lance Naik during 1949.
3. On 15 Aug 2000, he was called at Jalandhar Cantt and was awarded Rs. one Lakh for his bravery and courage. He enjoyed good health care free life. He was fond of non-vegetarian food with two pegs in the evening. He expired at the age of 85 years. God bless his soul.

S. DIDAR SINGH MAND
S. Didar Singh was born in the family of S. Banta Singh on 07 Feb 1942. Like his father he had a very good physique. He was not much fond of studying, however he studied upto 8th class.
2. During 1961, he joined Indian Army in Signals. Immediately after he joined Army, Chinese operation started in which he was put on OP duty along with four other Sepoys. Whole operation depends on the direction of these personnel performing the OP duty and the enemy is always for a special look out for these personnel as they are always ahead of rest of the Army. Generally they hide themselves on a tree/hill top from where they could see enemy clearly. They give directions to the gunners to attain a better aim. He performed the duties at Sultak, Durbak and Leh. Out of five personnel performing the OP duty, rest all got killed in the operation and he could save himself. The names of personnel performing the OP duty who got killed are S. Satwant Singh, S. Bhagwant Singh, S. Ajmer Singh and S. Kuldip Singh. He was awarded Seva Medal during 1962 operations.
3. At Leh, near Maharaja Ranjit Singh's Fort a stone in the memory of above said martyrs is laid. 13 Fd Arty every year on 13th May recites Akhandpath in the memory of these martyrs.
4. During 1965 war, S. Didar Singh was in the advance party who captured "Unche Baans" near Puran Da Khooh ( ਦਾ ਖੂਹ) Sialkot sector. They captured 2368 civilians during the operations.
5. He enjoyed good health and was very fond of drinking. He is known as "Baba" in the village. Most of the time he was found far away from the village in his fields. He expired in the fields only at the age of 65 years. At the time of his death, he was alone, few eggs, Ghee, onions & cooking utensils were found near his body, probably he might be preparing his snacks for drink. God bless his soul.
S. JASBIR SINGH MAND
S. Jasbir Singh Mand, S/O S. Resham Singh Mand was born on 25 Apr 1954 at V. Mand in Hoshiarpur District in the family of “Chelian Da Parivar”. He was the fourth child of his parents. His father was in Indian Railways & he was lucky enough to be with his parents at the place of his father’s posting. He studied at Jalandhar, Amritsar & Ludhiana. He was an intelligent student. He did B. Sc. & M.Sc. Horticulture from Punjab Agriculture University during 1976 in first division. He was not only good in studies, he participated in sports also. He was a good Hockey player and he participated in 400 mtrs, 1500 mtrs race in PAU. He had a good physique with an athletic look. He is 5’10”.
2. After completion of his studies, he joined PAU as a Research Associate. Simultaneously he tried his luck elsewhere for better job. He was selected as a Probationary Officer in Bank of India and Procurement Officer in Markfed. He neither joined Bank nor Markfed. The reason for not joining these lucrative offers were that he got engaged to Ms. Susan, who was in Canada & whole family wanted that he should go to Canada.
3. His papers for going to Canada were through for immigration & during 1980 he went to Canada & got married to Ms. Susan in Canada on 28 Jun 1980. She is Executive Assistant to Director of Operation Planning / Contract Management -- CHS. Jasbir switch over to various jobs because of better prospects. Finally he got into his own business & presently he had three warehouses managed by him and one of his partner. He is happy & progressing well.
4. He has two sons Randeep & Arondeep. Randeep is tall and a healthy boy who got married to Sharonjit on 18 Jul 2009 in Canada. Randeep is certified General Accountant & Sharonjit has done B.A. Pol Science. Both Randeep & Sharonjit are happy. Aron has done Bachelor of Business Administration & presently undergoing Corporate law in England. He is in the final years of his course. He is very active, cool and a good footballer.
5. Jasbir though migrated to Canada during 1980 but he has not forgotten his roots. He is always happy to help the needful. He particularly is very concerned about the elderly people. He keeps in touch with the seniors of the family. He spent lot of money and organised a medical camp at village for the benefit of all the needy. He liberally gives financial support to the village Guruduara and all the needy young students of the village. He has also helped a poor family for the marriage of their daughter. His soft & approachable nature has win many minds.
5. His wife Susan is very understanding and cooperative. Being born & brought up in England/ Canada, she shows lots of love and affection to all the family members at home front. Everyone likes her smiling face and helping nature. Jasbir & Susan are respected for exemplary management of personnel affairs. They display unusual gift in putting everyone at ease. We wish them best of luck and happiness in life.
S. INDERJIT SINGH MAND
S. Inderjit Singh Mand S/O S. Mahnga Singh Mand was born on Oct 1961 in V. Mand, Distt. Hoshiarpur. He did initial schooling at village school. He did extremely well in school. He joined ITI, Patiala to complete Draftsman & Mechanical (Auto-CAD) course and completed during 1979. Being a village boy to do Auto CAD course during 1979 speaks very high of his general awareness and his technical mind. After completion of this course he started working, simultaneously he did not leave his studies. He completed MA in Political science during 1988 from Punjabi University, Patiala. Still his urge for studies was not fulfilled and he joined Post Graduate Diploma in Material Management and completed during 1994 from Punjabi University, Patiala.
He went abroad to UAE during Sept 1989 and worked as Chief Draftsman / Project Coordinator in Schuco International, Germany at Sharjah till July 1995. Then he migrated to Canada and presently working as Head Draftsman / Coordinator in Columbia Glazing in Burnaby, BC for the last 15 years.
He is a tall, handsome and well built person. He is cheerful and happy going person. Hardwork is in his blood. It is only the hardwork and devotion to the profession which has taken him to this level in Canada.
He has two daughters Preena & Parul. Both are healthy and studying in Canada. I am extremely thankful to Preena who has helped in typing this book on computer which has saved my effort and time.
Though Inderjit is there in Canada, but he has not forgotten his roots. During my visit to Canada in 2009 I visited his house and talked to him regarding updating and rewriting the book on our village which I have written during 2000, he immediately extended his help and encouraged Preena to undertake the job of feeding the data to computer from my old book. That is how Preena has done the job. Not only that his helping nature and continuous interaction, has motivated me to undertake the job of rewriting the old book once again. He has provided me the financial help also for this job. I am extremely thankful to him.
Our village is proud of him, we all wish him the success and happiness in life.
COL PARVINDER SINGH MAND
He was born on 03 Aug 1959 at village Mand in Hoshiarpur Distt. His Father Capt Mahnga Singh and Mrs Mohinder Kaur is his mother. He has two sisters and two brothers. His younger brother Satpal Singh Mand was the rising star of V. Mand who expired in a road accident at the age of 35 years. His second brother Inderjit Singh Mand is settled in Canada & is a great well wisher of Mand community.
2. He studied in a village school at Teli Chowk. He stood first in school and had brilliant academic records. He did his B. Sc. From DAV College, Dasuya in first division during 1980 and completed M. Sc. (Physics) at Kurukshetra University during 1982.
3. He got selected for Short Service Commission in Army and joined OTA Chennai in Oct 1982. He got commission in Corps of Engineers (Bengal Sappers) on 27 Aug 1983 and joined 58 Engineering Regiment. He got permanent Commission in 1988.
4. During service in Army, he graduated in B. Tech (Civil) in 1st Division from College of Military Engineering (CME), Pune (JNU) during 1991. Subsequently he acquired M. Tech (Town Plng) degree from IIT, Rorkee in 1995 in 1st Division with honours (Gold Medal). He completed PGDM (Fin) from Symbiosis Institute of Management in 1997.
5. He had a balanced profile of serving with troops, staff, instructional and MES. He was instructor in College of Military Engineering and taught B. Tech students. He commanded a field company (Engrs) which provided Engineering support for execution of nuclear blasts at Pokaran in 1998.He was awarded Chief of Army Staff Commendation Card twice in Aug 98 and Jan 99 for devotion to duty, a rare distinction for a Military man. He served in army for 26 years at various stations including Pune, Chandimandir, Jalandhar, Pathankot, J&K, Norh East, Pokaran etc. He took premature retirement as Colonel.
6. He joined Public Sector construction company, Ircon International Ltd in April 2006 as Joint General Manager and was appointed Project Head of Rs 3500 Cr J&K Rail Link Project at Banihal. He was responsible for construction of 68 Km stretch of line in Ramban district, which also included 11 Km long Pir Panjal Tunnel at Banihal. He served in the project with distinction for four years (extended tenure) and posted to company head office in New Delhi as Head of Administration. Now he has been promoted to the rank of Additional General Manager and posted as Project Head of one Billion Dollar Rail Project in Sri Lanka being executed by Ircon International Ltd.
7. He owns a house in Panchkula and his family is settled there. He married to Ms. Baljit Kaur & his two sons, Ramandeep Singh & Ripudaman Singh are healthy & cheerful. Ramandeep Singh is a student of MBA in Mumbai after completing his Engineering & Ripudaman Singh, is engineering student in Panjab Engineering College Chandigarh.
