My Wish

MY WISH

 

        Progress of any country/city / village can be best judged by the state of children & elders of that place, The basic requirements for them are:-

 

(a)    Clean environment

(b)    Good school

(c)    Playgrounds with sports equipment

(d)    Guruduara

(e)    Hospital

(i)     Library

(g)    Communication/ transportation arrangements (Telephones)

(h)    Pacca village streets with lights

 

2.     Let us discuss about these requirements:-

 

 (a)   Clean Environment:- The location of the village is at a higher place than the adjoining four villages. In addition the topography of village is such that it has natural drainage on two sides of the village which can accept any amount of drainage. Have we made use of it? A big no, rather the village drainage is planned to the opposite side of natural drainage & throughout the year you find stagnated water on the road near ‘Naukaran Di Haveli’ It is not understood, it is done with what intention. My wish is to replace the whole drainage system of the village and make use of the natural drainage to make the village neat and clean.

 

(b)    Play Grounds:- Any village which has playground is distinguished by the different culture i.e. where in all the younger generation knows each other very well & even the elders know the youngsters by name. It is because they spend evenings together in the playground away form the closed TV room. They breath fresh air and sweat out the extras. Playgrounds are must for the coming generations because farming is becoming totally mechanised and there will not be any hard work involved in routine other than to feed a buffalo or two. For this job also every family is having a full time servant. In addition, sports help in building team spirit and will help in 'sorting out the old enmities. I wish that my village should have a good playground with weight lifting & Gymnasium facilities . At least to start with a football costing Rs. 150/-, village Panchayat should be in a position to give to 22 children of the village to play at one time.

 

(c)    Guruduara- It provides respite for all the people during their sorrows and happiness. When an individual grows old, his requirements totally changes because of his sleeping, eating, working habits changes drastically. He thinks about his family welfare much more than what he can do for the family, he can sleep only four to five hours, he is unable to digest entire food.

 

 This all adds to the frustrations of the individual. To get up early morning to go to the Guruduara not only provides respite to the elderly person but also gives him an excuse to be out of the bed. Similarly evening hours for a jobless person are boring, visit to the Guruduara and Darshan of Sangat gives him the happiness and opportunity to share his views to the Guruduara visitors. Guruduara also provides the right place for the children to learn & follow the ethics and values of life and to know the religion better.

 

I am thankful to the whole village community who have thought on the right lines & brought up an Alishan Guruduara building. I wish the young generation should not only visit the Guruduara daily but should try to improve upon the surroundings of Guruduara.

 

(d)    Hospital:- The requirement of hospital is a must. We are lucky to have a Govt. hospital nearby. This hospital provides the medical cover to around twenty villages. The facilities and staff is inadequate. I wish that efforts should be made through local MP/MLA for better facilities / more staff in this hospital. Two Ambulances should be available for emergency purposes.

 

(e)    Library :- The requirement of library in the village is a must because of:

 

(i)     To ensure the availability of free news paper/magazines to all.

 

(ii)    To provide the text books/guides to the needy on loan.

 

(iii)    It provides a good meeting point to exchange the views for the betterment of village community.

 

        I wish there should be a good village library. If additional room can not be constructed, a room in the Guruduara/School should be converted to village library.

 

(f)     Communication/Transportation arrangements:- In the modern world, all the villages should be connected by civil transportation system & all villages should have a common telephone (on payment). In case required to the public, Panchayat telephone should be made available to the people on payment. Bus route to the village has already started during 2008, its frequency need to be increased. Sufficient mobile / landlines are available now in the village.

 

(g)    Pucca Village Streets with Lights:- I feel it is essential to have pucca village streets with lights. Pucca streets mainly depend upon the type of drainage system. Both things are inter related. Proper planning should be done to provide pucca streets with lights and drains.

 

3.       I am a firm believer that Punjabis are very hard working and enterprenuring. Let us put in a consolidated and dedicated effort to meet our own requirements for the benefit of our children to fulfill our demands.

 

 

4.     Welfare of Elders:- I remember while we were young, any old person crossing by our side, we used to wish him & there was always some conversation which is lagging now. With more & more education & electronic media there should have been an improvement but the trend is negative. Let us check it and consider all the elders as the leading members of our community & give them their dues. They have worked hard in their life & brought us to this level. It is our duty to share all their sorrows & happiness with them. It is very unfortunate to see an old person lying on the bed, looking forward for someone to come & give him a glass of water. Remember everyone is to go through the same stage. What we teach our children today will be handy tomorrow. Let us look after the elders physically/ financially as required. My wish is to see the elders happier than the younger generation.
